February is the month of love, and we can’t think of a better place to celebrate love than the Garden Route. With breathtaking scenery, adventurous activities, and plenty of gorgeous places to explore, there are a multitude of ways to spoil your loved one and yourself on this stretch of South African coast.
Here are some of the most romantic things to do on the Garden Route this Valentine’s month:
Sail into the sunset
Book a trip on a sailing boat and sail out in the sunset in Knysna. Enjoy a glass of bubbles and some oysters as you sail out into the Knysna lagoon and up to the heads in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. All you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the view.
Pack a picnic in Plett
Just 30 minutes from Knysna, Robberg Nature Reserve in Plettenberg Bay is a wonderful place to picnic as a couple. Enjoy a leisurely walk or a more strenuous hike as you marvel at the stunning scenery on this peninsula. Find a private spot to settle down with a romantic picnic as you enjoy being out in nature with that special someone.
Take a slow drive
The Swartberg Pass, a must-do of gravel road passes, links the Garden Route to the Little Karoo. Take your love to new heights when you take a slow drive around the bends of this beautiful pass. The Seven Passes Route between George and Knysna is another drive that is well worth doing as a couple, with plenty of viewpoints, forests, and hidden coffee shops to stop at along the way.
Go strawberry picking in George
Treat your Valentine to something sweet with a strawberry-picking adventure to Redberry Farm in George, just an hour’s drive from our Beautiful Knysna Villas properties. When you’re down picking your own sweet treats you can settle down for a bite to eat or some homemade ice cream at one of the artisanal eateries. You could also rediscover your inner child as you try and make a break from the giant maze.
Wine and dine your loved one
There are so many amazing restaurants in and around Knysna that you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to wining and dining with your partner. Eat seafood by the seaside, share a slice of cheesecake overlooking the Knysna heads, or pop out for pizza under the milkwoods. Check out our post here on the best restaurants in Knysna. Alternatively, head out for a spot of gin, wine, or beer tasting at one of the craft distilleries and breweries on the Garden Route.
Game spotting for two
Within an hour or two’s drive from Knysna you will find various game reserves where you can enjoy an adventure under the South African skies. Garden Route Game Lodge, Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, Botlierskop, and Buffelsdrift Game Lodge all offer day visitor safaris where you can cuddle up with your partner while looking out for some of Africa’s most majestic creatures.
Zipline through the trees
Soar through the trees and over waterfalls as you take the leap into love. There are various zipline experiences to choose from on the Garden Route, from crisscrossing the forest in Knysna, to gliding over waterfalls and through the trees at Tsitsikamma, to flying over the cliffs and the waves at the longest over-ocean zipline in the world in Mossel Bay.
